The three information windows
Wednesday and Thursday practice participation is the softest signal — a veteran resting is routine, and markets barely react. Friday's game-status designation is firmer, and books reprice immediately on a doubtful tag.
Inactives, published ninety minutes before kickoff, are the hardest information of the week. This is the only window where the news is certain and the market has minutes rather than days to absorb it.
Don't trade the headline
By the time a star's status is a push notification, the main line has moved. Value sits in the second-order contracts: the opposing team total, the first-half number, the game total when a backup quarterback shortens the game script.
Quantify before you click. A replacement-level quarterback is worth roughly four to six points of spread; a starting corner or an interior lineman is worth under a point. Most retail overreacts to skill-position names and underreacts to line play.
Invalidation
Every injury-driven ticket carries an explicit invalidation: if the player is upgraded, or the projected snap share reverses, the position closes at market regardless of price. Holding a thesis after the fact that created it disappeared is the most common way a good read turns into a bad loss.
